Photography

Here are some photographs I have taken of the University of Pittsburgh, NYC, Colorado, Rochester, Los Angeles, and North Carolina.

University of Pittsburgh

This is the Cathedral of Learning, colloquially known as "Cathy" among Pitt students. It is the tallest academic building in the Western Hemisphere and houses classrooms, offices, libraries, digital and computer labs, and a small food court. This building is also unique because it houses several Nationality Classrooms throughout the first three floors; these rooms were designed in the styles of various ethnic groups in Pittsburgh. As a student of the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, I have had many of my classes in Cathy throughout the years.

rectangular windows. American flags waking on the building to the right.

New York City

This photo is from a visit to New York City over Winter Break this year. I absolutely adore NYC, but had not visited in the few years since my aunt and uncle moved upstate. NYC is my measure of what a true city is, though I understand that this may not be the most appropriate measure given that fact that it is so unique in its culture and the density to which it is inhabited. Perhaps this measure is why Pittsurgh has always felt like a small, somewhat underpopulated city in my eyes. I took this picture near Rockefeller Center; photos facing upward that show the scale of buildings are some of my favorite to capture. This perspective forces the viewer to insert themself into the image as if they are standing on the street looking up skyscrapers.

Red Rocks Ampitheatre, Colorado

I am a player on the Pitt Women's Club Lacrosse team; this means that I have the opportunity to travel to places I've never been to before for tournaments. This past season, we were invited to attend the 'Mile High' tournament hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder. Colorado is such a beautiful state. As crazy as it sounds, I had never seen an actual mountain until that trip. Red Rocks is an outdoor ampitheatre near Boulder, CO. It attracts tourists and fitness enthusiasts alike; tourists visit for the views while fitness enthusiasts use the rows of seating for classes, sprints, etc. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to travel to so many new places with the team through club lacrosse!

Rochester, New York

Rochester, New York is my home city. Well, Honeoye Falls is my actual hometown. I tell people Rochester because it is much more well-known. This photo, however, is actually taken in the city of Rochester on my favorite street: Park Avenue. This street is home to some of my favorite local shops and cafes. My mom likes to take my sisters and I up to Park Ave around Christmastime to see the holiday decorations and get a late lunch. It is one of my favorite places in Rochester.

to the far right. Mountains in the central horizontal line. Bright blue sky with
                few clouds.

Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles, California is another place I had the privilege to visit with the club lacrosse team. This tournament is hosted each year by UCLA and we played UCLA, San Diego State University, the University of Georgia, and California Polytechnic State University. We visited the Santa Monica Pier between games on the Saturday because we had a few hours between games. That is where I took this picture. I was in awe of the expanse of Pacific Ocean in front of me; it was unlike any other beach I had been to prior.

Avon, North Carolina

This image is a corner of Uglie Mugs Coffee Shop, a cute little coffee and pastry shop less than a quarter mile from the beach. My mom, sisters, aunt, and cousin walk here once or twice during our week-long stay. The Outer Banks, NC holds a truly special place in my heart. My moms side of the family has visited every summer for roughly thirty years. It is where many of my family's inside jokes stem from and is typically the highlight of my summer.
